The extinct volcano El Altar, also known as Capac Urcu is Ecuador’s most challenging mountain, considering normal routes, but not only due to difficulties in ice and rock, also the weather is a crucial factor when attempting a climb.
The picture above is from beginning of February 2016, when we spent 3 rainy days up there, the worst thing about it, we left our rubber boots in the car, so we got pretty wet.
Best season for climbing El Altar is about to come! We are getting prepared again. Wanna climb with us? We recommend beginning of November till end of January.
